We understand our customers have many questions about their sprinkler systems. Therefore, we put together the most frequently asked questions to help you decide if Planet Green can help you with yours.

Our office is open Monday- Saturday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.; if you call our office outside of office hours, you will reach our voicemail where you can leave a message. We encourage you to text for faster response times or you can also email us at carlosjoe@hotmail.com to schedule an appointment.

Appointments are scheduled between 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. windows; we can no longer guarantee exact appointment times. Be advised that the Monday-Friday 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. spots are the first ones to go. Saturdays will usually book out completely before the weekdays.

We do our best to screen all calls or emails to get a clear picture of what is going on with a caller’s sprinkler system, but it is still difficult to predict exactly how much time each repair will take. The average repair takes between 1-2 hours to complete, including the time it takes to perform a General System Check (GSC) on a sprinkler system with 1-12 zones. Each repair slot is, on average, a 2-hour window with 30-minute max drive time. The max window for a repair is 3 hours per technician. If the technician expects that the repair is going to take longer than 3 hours for one technician to complete by himself, they will reschedule the repair to return with extra workers. For some, this is inconvenient, but it is the most “cost effective” approach for our customers and saves time for other customers on the technician’s schedule yet to be seen.

This is a very important question and the short answer is NO. This is why:

  • You MUST be a LICENSED irrigator

The long answer is anyone can work on certain parts of the sprinkler systems. Customers often confuse irrigators with regular low-cost lawn crews and this is a HUGE error. The average lawn crew and landscaper may be able to repair a broken head they mowed over or a small lateral line pipe break for lower costs to the customer, but they (usually) are in NO WAY qualified, trained and educated licensed professionals and there is no guarantee that what they are doing is correct. Furthermore, in Texas, you MUST be a licensed irrigator or plumber to legally make repairs at the point of cross connection at the main water line to the backflow.

The previous does not disqualify legitimate landscaping companies. Many landscaping companies perform irrigation and carry the licensing to do so. Landscaping companies often do so because of the nature of their work (providing irrigation to their landscaping and/ or making modifications to an existing system to accommodate landscaping). The important thing for a homeowner to remember is to ask the question, “Are you a licensed and insured irrigator”? At Planet Green we are, both, licensed and insured.

Lastly, your home is the MOST expensive investment you will make. Do you really want someone performing work on your home that is not qualified to do so, cannot guarantee his or her workmanship and can end up costing YOU much more money if the repair is not correctly?

The only way to get an accurate quote is to visit the property in question. There are web resources out there that compare local and national averages and in my opinion, they are, relatively, accurate.

Many people call us asking for quotes expecting or hoping a new system will cost them less than $1000; even if it is a front yard only, Planet Green has a $1500 minimum, excluding zone additions.

New “Residential” installs can go anywhere from $1500-$3700 and depends on many things such as the size of your lot/ number of zones required for head to head coverage, water pressure, terrain issues, boring beneath sidewalks or driveways, cost of QUALITY materials and the number of workers required to complete the job in a timely manner.

Planet Green only offers free estimates on new sprinkler, drain or gutter installs. Planet Green does NOT offer free estimates for repairs, unless the repair is substantial in size. However, Planet Green does offer a specific service at an extremely reduced rate in which a technician will come to the property in question to perform an assessment and give the homeowner an idea of what they can expect to spend on a repair. The price is not a guarantee and can possibly change to be more or less. Call our office to find out more information.

It is difficult to say how much a repair will cost. Each repair is different. Many times homeowners will “GOOGLE” search their problem and diagnose the system themselves as a problem that is much smaller or bigger than what it actually is. However, most often customers are truly uncertain about what is actually going on with their systems.

At Planet Green, the “average” day-to-day repair is $200 – $300, but could cost more or less. We have flat fees for certain repairs that are much less but do not include a comprehensive inspection of your sprinkler system. Further, some repairs, as often seen in post-pool/ patio work can run upwards to $1000 or more. It all depends on the damage and type of repair.

The “average” cost for repairs includes our trip fee. Trip fees with ANY business, and common with most businesses, are necessary to prevent wasting company time and resources on dry runs. Our time, like yours, is very valuable to us

Spring and summer are the busiest seasons for irrigators and landscapers. Our time is quickly eaten up if we schedule to give free estimates in time slots other customers are waiting to fill to have a technician come out and complete a repair. For those looking for the lowest price, my recommendation would be to call someone who is just starting their irrigation business and who only works for himself or herself with a helper. These individuals are usually more capable of doing the repair for a little less and can help them build experience. The con to this is the potential of unexpectedly spending hundreds of dollars if the irrigator is not able to figure out the problem, leaving you with a steep bill and a non-operating system. (Yes, that does happen and we hear it often). REMEMBER; make sure to ask if your irrigator is licensed in Texas!

In fact, YES we sure do! Our warranty guarantees parts and workmanship but varies depending on the project. We do guarantee repairs for a limited period. Unfortunately, however, we do NOT guarantee the parts of a sprinkler system installed or repaired by any company or person other than Planet Green. We ONLY guarantee our work. No, you do not. When you call to schedule our secretary or office manager will get your name, phone, address, nature of repair and email. If you find you cannot be home, during your scheduled time, we will email you an invoice and you can pay online. All payments are due immediately upon completion of repairs and paid no later than 24 hours after an invoice is submitted. Late payments (greater than 24 hours after a repair is complete or invoice is submitted) are subject to late fees at a rate of 5% per day until the invoice is paid in full.

Parts are expensive. To save on costs, we usually buy our parts and materials in bulk. However, as gas prices fluctuate, so do the costs of parts. Unfortunately, the costs of parts usually go up and rarely go down in price. Sometimes a year or two can pass without the cost of a part changing much if any. Sometimes they go up every few months. When the price of materials go up we have to adjust our prices to cover our parts expenses (consumables).

Absolutely!!! We are ALWAYS looking for opportunities to educate our customer’s and would gladly take the time to show you how to make minor repairs to your system that do not require a licensed irrigator and could save you hundreds! We would rather you call us for the difficult stuff that requires certain equipment and technical expertise. Your sprinkler system, like your car, wears down over time and will need repair. You may know how to change your tire and oil, but if you need a new transmission or engine repair most people take their car to the auto shop. We look at your sprinklers the same way. Also, like regular maintenance on your car can prolong its longevity, so can regular maintenance on your sprinklers! All incidents are recorded on the fault and discovery form provided by your technician and all incoming and outgoing calls, made or received by any Planet Green employee, are recorded and monitored daily for quality assurance.
